Essential Traffic Information for Truckies

All heavy haulage drivers and truckies in the industry know the importance of good route planning. Not only is it essential to plan where to refuel, eat and rest; but as Australia’s roads become increasingly busy, heavy transport truckies must also take into account congestion, accidents and planned road maintenance.

To help you arrive safely and on time, we’ve pulled together the most reliable traffic information resources to cover the country’s entire road network. Bookmark this page as a quick reference when planning future interstate routes.

Queensland Traffic and Travel Information

Using an interactive map, heavy transport truckies can scan their route for incidents and hazards, closures and restrictions, roadworks and events. Display options include advanced filtering and the ability to search by route. Importantly for heavy vehicles, the Queensland website also includes useful factsheets, industry road reports, a list of heavy vehicle rest areas and much more.

New South Wales

Live Traffic NSW

Live Traffic NSW uses an interactive map to identify current road hazards and events. New features include personalised alerts, Twitter and Facebook feeds, and advanced route search and filtering.

VicTraffic has one up on other states with apps for iPhone and Android, however the design is the similar using an interactive map with advanced filtering for traffic hazards.

South Australia

Traffic SA

The Traffic SA website also uses an interactive map to highlight road hazards across the state complemented by a complete list of hazards and closures listed by suburb.

Western Australia

Main Roads Western Australia

Australia’s largest state has some of the most remote roads, so stay updated with the Western Australian Government’s comprehensive list of planned works, road upgrades, events and alerts. This service also has live traffic cameras and a dedicated Perth traffic Twitter feed.

Northern Territory

Road Report

From dusty roads in Australia’s red centre to flood-prone roads in the north, the Northern Territory’s Road Report lists road closures, planned works, flooding and load limits by region.

Department of State Growth Transport

In addition to a list of current works and hazards, the Tasmanian traffic information service includes useful information on heavy vehicle reform and plans for growth in the state.
